11 years-105 trillion won new media contract
The National Basketball Association (NBA) has signed an astronomical amount of media contracts. It is an amazing contract worth more than 100 trillion won in Korean money.
ESPN, a U.S. sports channel, reported on the 11th that it has signed a media contract worth a whopping $76 billion about 105 trillion won for 11 years.
This is a new record in terms of contract duration and total amount in NBA history. The contract will take effect from the 2025-26 season, which will begin in the winter of the year.
The game will continue to be broadcast on ESPN and ABC, and will be available on NBC and Amazon Prime. It will also be available on the NBA's exclusive OTT League Pass.
The contract is expected to raise salary cap. As a result, it is expected that there will be a player who will receive an annual salary of $100 million in the 2030s.
In addition, with the signing of the mega-contract, the NBA has even gained the power to create teams in Las Vegas, Seattle, Montreal, and Vancouver in Canada.
Meanwhile, the NBA 2023-24 season ended with the Boston Celtics' 18th all-time victory. The 2024-25 season will open in late October.
